Press release
In the interstices of being, A Private Smile unfolds—an exploration of 13 artistic perspectives from the tri-border region around Basel. The participating artists explore fluid boundaries between private and public spaces, where intimacy meets the collective. From corners to public squares, the gaze seeks connection in everyday life. The exhibition invites us to rethink spaces, uncovering the hidden in the visible. The “private smile” is a subtle, almost clandestine moment, meant for the self rather than the crowd. It forms a bridge between inner and outer worlds, offering insight into truths, desires, and experiences. These smiles invite viewers into an enigmatic space, as if the artwork is whispering a secret.
A Private Smile is part of Regionale 25 and curated by Mohamed Almusibli, Yana Kadykova, and Lena Katharina Reuter.
