It has happened to all of us: you’re catching up on some art magazines and spontaneously utter a mumbled “WTF” at the sight of things pointed out as particularly good or bad. How could a terrible neo-conceptual variation of sculptures addressing Post-structuralism deserve such a praiseful review? How could your favorite work in the Whitney Biennial be overlooked by your favorite art critic? Why did everyone feel obliged to orgasm in front of Anne Imhof’s pale hipsters at the Venice Biennale instead of underlining Geta Brătescu’s fantastic mini-retrospective at the Romanian Pavilion? Frustration mixes with a piercing feeling of powerlessness: Why didn’t anybody ask me?
Well, we are asking you!
We want to know your opinion: thanks to our app's brand new features, you can now select the shows you like, publish them and follow others. If you’re using Exhibitionary, you must have a pretty good idea of what’s going on in the contemporary art world; critics don’t have a monopoly on deciding what’s worth being selected as a highlight and what’s not.
Like getting drunk or complaining about the weather, creating your Picklist is incredibly easy and will come naturally; plus, aside from giving you the possibility to showcase your very own evaluation on what’s hot and what’s not, seeing other users’ Pick lists might widen your horizon. Who knows? You might be stuck in the subway, cursing the fact you have to share the public space with fourteen million other people and suddenly, discover some exhibition you hadn’t heard about yet in your friend Barbara's Pick list. Get out of the train, be spontaneous and visit the show! That’s how easy it can get. This is obviously an extreme (and maybe slightly unrealistic) scenario, but we nonetheless think that through our new features, you’ll be able to discover, share and enjoy even better exhibitions.
Here's what's new:
Favorites are now called My Picks, and you can share them with others. In Picks you see a combined list of shows you've selected in Current and Openings.
To publish your Picks, just log in, upload a photo, write something about who you are, and use the switch to publish them. Tap save, and your favorite shows are now visible to everyone.
You can also follow Picks from others.
If you click on Editors, you can choose whom you want to follow. Be aware that you only see Picks of the city you have selected.
To help you get a better idea which city you've chosen, we've added a brand new city selector (in the upper right corner) which always shows you with a neat three letter code which city you've selected.
And here's how to share your Picks with others:
We've also added a couple of filters.
You can now filter Current and Openings by venue types (galleries, museums, private collections, project spaces, etc.) as well as by quarter on the Map.
We cannot wait to see all your published Picks!
By the way, if you like what we do, please show us some love. We never ask you for a rating in the app because we hate to interrupt your mobile experience. So why don't you leave us a review in the App Store now? This would help us a great deal. Thanks in advance!
